From Stockholm to Nairobi, Climate Fresk joins the Stockholm+50 celebrations!

The UN celebrated 50 years of global environmental action in June with the Stockholm+50 conference. Climate Fresk just had to be involved! Sweden and Kenya co-organised the event, which inspired freskers from both countries to run workshops and trainings, simultaneously.

What is Stockholm+50?

Stockholm+50 was an international conference that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. That was the first time that the question of our environment was recognised as something urgent that required a focused global cooperation. 122 countries adopted a series of principles that became The Stockholm Declaration and, a few months later, the UN Environment Programme was born.

This year the conference’s aim was to put forward participants’ initiatives that can help address the climate emergency. So, Climate Fresk was in the right place! The Swedish freskers knew how to make the most of the opportunity

They did everything they could to get the Climate Fresk workshops to be official events that were associated with the conference. And it worked! It’s thanks to them that Climate Fresk was one of the UN-selected organisations, contributing to their theme of “a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity.”

The community of Kenyan facilitators got on board soon afterwards, truly representing the bi-national nature of the event.

An inter-freskontinental mobilisation

On the 31st of May, at almost exactly the same time (taking into consideration the different time zones) two Climate Fresk workshops took place, almost 7000 km apart. One in Stockholm, the other in Nairobi. Those who weren’t lucky enough to be in either of those cities, could still get involved with the festivities via an online workshop!

About 40 participants took part in the event but beyond the raw numbers, what these sessions demonstrated is the potential for Climate Fresk to build bridges between different countries and communities, bringing people together around the shared fight against climate change.

There are great opportunities ahead for these two countries!

Thank you to the Kenyan and Swedish community of freskers for coming together to make this happen. A special thanks to our coordinators, Noémie and Antoine for this fantastic initiative.

Climate Collage is now Climate Fresk!

We are still the same! We just changed our name ;)
