Stockholm+50 was an international conference that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. That was the first time that the question of our environment was recognised as something urgent that required a focused global cooperation. 122 countries adopted a series of principles that became The Stockholm Declaration and, a few months later, the UN Environment Programme was born.
This year the conference’s aim was to put forward participants’ initiatives that can help address the climate emergency. So, Climate Fresk was in the right place! The Swedish freskers knew how to make the most of the opportunity.
They did everything they could to get the Climate Fresk workshops to be official events that were associated with the conference. And it worked! It’s thanks to them that Climate Fresk was one of the UN-selected organisations, contributing to their theme of “a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity.”
The community of Kenyan facilitators got on board soon afterwards, truly representing the bi-national nature of the event.
