Words from... Géraldine Vuillier, Fresker and co-creator of the Biodiversity Fresk

Dear Freskers,

As with our climate, biodiversity is at the heart of a giant feedback loop: humanity’s destruction of biodiversity endangers human existence itself. We are often very reductive about biodiversity, likening it to being friends with animals but it is so much more than that!

The IPBES, which is the IPCC-equivalent for biodiversity, published its latest report in July. It asserts that the needs of billions of people are reliant on 50,000 wild species, 10,000 of which are for food.

Biodiversity has been made invisible, despite surrounding us all of the time. We need to be more aware of it so that we can preserve it, for its own sake but also because our lives depend on it. Becoming more aware of it will make us question our relationship with other living things and how we can better care for them. The similarities with Climate Fresk are not a coincidence ; )

Let’s start by living in wonder for everything around us. That’s the first step to protecting these great natural riches.

If you’re interested in this topic, this article can help you learn more about it. I also encourage you to try out the Biodiversity Fresk to better understand the systemic nature of biodiversity loss.
