3 euros, 10% or free? How do licence fees work?

Today, we're tackling a subject that we get asked about a lot: licence fees. Fear not, we’ll try to clear up your questions in this article!

Under the Climate Fresk licence, there are two ‘uses’ of the tool: commercial (workshops are delivered for a fee or as part of a paid employee’s time) and non-commercial (workshops are delivered for free).

When you use the tool commercially, either the Fresker or the company must pay licence fees to the Climate Fresk association. These fees go into our running costs and are essential for the association to keep doing its work.

So, how do you calculate the licence fees for a workshop or training? There are three key questions to ask yourself:

  1. Who are the participants?
  2. Am I being paid to run this workshop or training?
  3. Am I an employee of the organisation I am fresking?

For fresking the general public and educational institutions

This includes:

  • Members of the general public, friends and family;
  • Staff and students in educational institutions (not adult education);
  • Members of non-professional associations (like the Scouts).

For fresking professionally and at your own workplace

This includes:

  • Employees of private companies, associations, public bodies, local authorities;

  • People in adult education;

  • Members of a professional network;
  • Elected representatives.

Here’s a flowchart that sums it all up again, for your reference.

Thank you for your careful attention to the licence fees, and happy fresking!
