A new initiative targeting law-makers in France

Emmanual Macron was re-elected French President last month, and will announce his new ministerial team no later than Friday, May 13th.  And on June 12th and 19th, the French will vote in parliamentary elections to select their national representatives. The upcoming elections represent a great opportunity to encourage policy-makers to participate in a Climate Fresk workshop, to help them understand the causes and consequences of climate change!

In France, Climate Fresk is aiming to ‘fresk’ Emmanuel Macron, the soon-to-be announced Ministers, and as many candidates in the parliamentary elections as possible. Climate Fresk is in action-mode and has launched a dedicated forum, petition and working group for this campaign!

1. Climate Fresk and 17 public figures have called on to the French President and future Ministers to get educated on ecological issues

Journal du Dimanche (a weekly national newspaper) just published an open letter, signed by Climate Fresk’s founding president, Cédric Ringenbach, encouraging Emmanuel Macron and his ministers to get trained. The letter was signed by 17 public figures engaged in the fight against climate change, including Jean-Marc Jancovici (engineer, lecturer, author and main developer of Carbon Accounting), Cyril Dion (writer, director and environmental activist), Camille Étienne (activist)…

You can read the letter (in French) here.

2. Petition launched to support this appeal

The more signatures we can get, the better our chances to be heard by these policy makers.

You can access the petition (in French) here.

3. Initiative to ‘fresk’ the parliamentary election candidates

A lot of the candidates in this election don’t understand climate change whatsoever. Yet, they are going to be the ones voting for the policies that impact the climate emergency. In order to make informed decisions, it’s crucial that they understand what they’re dealing with.

That is why we are targeting them with this campaign. The impact of this action could be significant and have a snowball effect – the more candidates who participate in a workshop, the more Ministers and local elected officials who will want to do the same (and vice versa)!
