LEM, a Geneva-based company specialising in current sensors, is integrating sustainability into its business strategy, operations and employee learning. With Climate Fresk, LEM began building a shared understanding of climate change across its European sites, training internal facilitators and connecting climate science to the company’s own emissions, activities and sustainability objectives.
LEM aims to help its customers and wider society accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. While its products support electrification and energy efficiency, the company also aims to make its own operations and processes more sustainable.
With around 1,800 employees across 17 countries, the challenge was to make climate awareness relevant across different functions, locations and levels of the organisation, and to turn that awareness into practical action.
LEM also needed to maintain momentum beyond the initial workshops, secure engagement from senior management and create the conditions for employees’ ideas to be implemented.
Starting locally, building internal capacity
LEM began with two Climate Fresk workshops, one in Switzerland and one in France. The positive response encouraged the company to develop an internal rollout, initially involving members of its local Green Committees. Professional Climate Fresk coaches also supported the first two internal sessions, providing feedback to help improve facilitation.
Creating a framework for international deployment
To support a consistent rollout, LEM developed an internal communication and organisational toolkit, including promotional materials, intranet articles, registration forms, email templates and participant feedback questionnaires.
Local contacts helped coordinate workshops across European sites, while internal facilitators and Green Committees provided the local knowledge needed to engage colleagues.
The workshops were adapted to each context, combining climate science with local climate data, relevant news, LEM’s own sustainability objectives and the company’s main sources of emissions. Discussions also explored the potential for action in areas such as purchased components and other Scope 3 emissions.
Connecting awareness to action
LEM introduced indicators to track not only participation and facilitator training, but also ideas generated, actions underway and actions implemented. Participant feedback was also collected through a satisfaction measure.
Workshops brought together employees from different departments and levels of seniority, including production employees. Rather than restricting discussions to individual departments, LEM encouraged cross-functional exchanges to generate a broader range of ideas.
The company is also working with HR and its learning team to integrate Climate Fresk into employee onboarding and develop sustainability learning pathways tailored to different functions. Further plans include expanding the facilitator network internationally and exploring online workshops for locations with smaller teams.
We are still the same! We just changed our name ;)
